Tulip Festival Fare

The food fare part of the Tulip Festival is around the world. We tried out Cheese Tamales, beans and rice thanks to Azteca Mexican restaurant…

….red bean paste sticky rice thanks to the Chinese Cultural Center and this

Indonesian drink with lychee and durian and gelatinous flavored bits.

Chinese Bean Mix

In Bulk Barn there was a mix of lentils and beans of all types. Instead of the usual stew or bean salad, soup or casserole, I found they were good straight.
On the side, wasabi and vegetarian “sushi” made of avocado and other veggies.

Pizza and Fiddleheads

4-Cheese fluffy dough pizza with mushrooms and those short-seasoned fiddleheads.

Fortune

Fortune cookies with original fortune and a second to dialogue with the first, such as “Tomorrow busts the balls of ghosts.” and “Your uniqueness is more than an outward appearance.” Some chimed more, some less.

Smiles

Sometimes these cheery little frozen extruded chips just do the trick for a smile.
(Especially if you squish them down into catsup and it extrudes out the eyes and mouth.
It would be rather a lot, what with this pomegranate fruit smoothie. )

I only wish the colors on this image are horribly wrong by […]

Heart-Shaped

Nicastro’s sells rustichella d’abruzzo pasta. It’s 3 colors of bronze-die-cut pasta including the word “LOVE” in the scrollwork of each heart. Beside it, some peas boiled with fresh mint leaves and some freezer goodness of Moroccan tagine.

None of your Beans, waxed

Waxed yellow beans (the good hairless variety), some whipped potato with cheddar and dill using tofu milk instead of cow’s milk (not sure I’d recommend doing that) topped with sweet red pepper as a bent halo near the rutabaga.
