General Thirteen Thursday

Lucky 13

Luck is made. It is not entirely in, nor entirely out of, one’s control. For this 13 Thursday what luck have I made?

  1. Seth Godin pointed out “Who you hang out with determines what you dream about and what you collide with.” Lucky by any definition: Some heartening friends who are happier to be with me not more irritated to have me around.
  2. Physical space is mental space. I now have 3x more on one desk.
  3. Also the office floor does not crunch when walked on. Goodbye plastic spoons interred in newspapers. Bye-bye newspapers.
  4. The sofa no longer needs to be a surrogate office and the paper creep is back on shelves, or otherwise contained.
  5. Hard copy edits have been fished out from junk mail accumulation, insoles, 1987 hockey cards that categorically fit in no where. (Enough about the cleaning break yet?)
  6. Know anyone who wants Panini hockey cards? If they are worth their weight in gold they’d net $4240.80. One is even gold-foil(!)
  7. To pay attention and to Give a Little Love creates better feedback cycles. [Lovely song video]
  8. Shirk overresponsibilty. What you create creates echoes. Which is too much to bear the responsibility for a grump funk day where proportionality is a very long word for everything means blame.
  9. But luckily enough it blows over. Even.t.u.ally.
  10. Until then there is the simple gladness of Netflix and seeing The Nanny. It is over the top. I’m getting oddly attached. Do you remember the show?
  11. And Roy Rogers. I did a project on Dale and Roy for music class in, oh, maybe grade 5 or 6 on them. The teacher said her parents might know them but they were long before her time. It closes a loop to see the show. I’d only heard them. Possibly on 8-track.
  12. One indie bookstore, Beechwood Books got a reprieve from closing.Someone’s stepping in to save After Stonewall as well. (But Collected Works is still set to close on the 24).
  13. “What is your particular kind of resilience and on what is it based? What is it that encourages us to get up and keep getting up in the morning, given the sadness of being mortal?” 12 or 20 with Yasuko Thanh

Quote: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.” – Mister Rogers
