Many options not taken. Being present and staying put. We talk, read, watch the neighbours set up their yards, plan ours, eat ice cream, barbecue, watch copious smoke and plumes of flame. Retreat to safe distance. Chat, sun, hang laundry out to dry…
then respond to the feline Lassie’s appeal to do something. No, not water, not food, not litter, not petting. Follow that cat, yes.
Go for a walk. Weed, cut grass, trim back the mint. Watch neighbours move planters around. Smell the air. Write some, edit some, read, poll for email, make notes towards writing a letter, bake, pull more weeds, feel sun on the feet, photograph more plants.
