Mirrored Speech

What’s more frustrating than to be saying, I perceive this and have the reply in the range of: You’re imaginative. You’ve just have a bad day. You’re taking it the wrong way. Are you cranky? Do you need to eat? I don’t see that. I see this thing instead.

Whatever particulars in any given case, was phrased to open dialogue. Communication goes from creaking open to snapped shut, as blood pressure sky rockets.

This is when mirrored speech is ever so handy. In listening microskills, it might fall under wait, teflon mind, or tell me more, or paraphrase, but it’s distinct. It’s acknowledge what you just heard like paraphrase, but paraphrase is more of a parsing to make sure you heard right when you give a summary recap of the just thus far.

Mirrored speech is acknowledge what the other said first. You touch that base, what the other person said, before you leap off to your own thought, agree or disagree, before you extend to the next thought. It’s an acknowledgement trying to be accurate, but non-committal. Some people when being mirrored, think they are being agreed as when someone makes non-committal yesses.
